WHICH REMINDS ME
The Mild Revolution is playing at the Starving Artist in Keene, NH
this weekend. I will be there. WILL YOU!?!?
But seriously if you live far away, the good news is that I will shoot
lots of good quality video and you will be able to watch it!
And the Starving Artist is BYOB, which is just the greatest thing ever.
We talked about doing a comedy show there at some point…we still...

I agree with your observations. News commentary should definitely be
taken on a case-by-case basis. Ultimately I think the Cheney/Vader gag
irritated me because it simply wasn’t funny. Very MAD Magazine or...

about Cheney involved a picture of him dressed as Darth Vader with
accompanying theme music. Between that and Olbermann’s dreadful ‘Worst
Person in the World’ segment I came to the conclusion that MSNBC was,
in its own way, capable of being just as smug as FOX. Do these...

I feel like Republicans have maxed out on polarization, right? I mean
how much more insane could they get? Making non-procreative sex
illegal? Getting rid of all governmental agencies? A 100% income tax
on incomes below 250,000?
The danger is that Democrats could get just as bad. I don’t know how,
exactly, but I used to never think that MSNBC could become as
ridiculous as Fox. And...

Vanishing Marginals Theory
Olympia Snowe is retiring from the Senate, which is another example of
Vanishing Marginals Theory at work. Basically, it is the theory that
as political climates become more and more polarized, moderates are
pushed out. Either because they lose elections or decline to run.
Problem is, as we saw during the Health Care debate, moderates are
where the governing happens. So as we lose more and...

Oh, I wanted to note (have you guys figured out that Tumblr is
basically my notebook now?) that there’s basically ONE paragraph, in
the middle of Mockingjay, where Suzanne Collins gets vaguely political
with her vision of the future.
Katniss is looking out over a ruined landscape and thinks about people
who came before her and says, like, “Obviously they didn’t care about...
So something happened in Mockingjay (I’m in the last third of it or
so) that actually upset me. I was sad over a side character who died!
Which totally caught me off guard! Nothing in the Hunger Games has
brought out like any emotion in me until now.
One thing that bugged me, when I was scanning around looking at Oscar
tweets, was people observing that Rooney Mara seems to have been
infected by Lisbeth Salander (the same way Bill Murray and Johnny Depp
were reportedly unable to shake HST from themselves for a while). I
mean this is definitely true about Mara, she even says so herself, but
how did it occur to people looking at her in a...

shouldn’t bother shooting a frame. The gay element of ‘MF’ doesn’t
satisfy a lot of gay viewers because the couple is seen as being
largely asexual. What I don’t think they’re willing to accept is that
some (many) gay couples...

“Many of my friends aggressively dismiss P&R as an Office clone
despite never having seen a single episode or acknowledging that a
show can evolve beyond what it sets down in its first season. Modern

into dark territory it’s the fluffiest diet soda comedy on TV, easily.
So, question: Are...

SO I have been watching Modern Family, like I have almost finished
season 2. I like it, but I think the first two or three episodes were
the best and they never got that good again.
You know how people refuse to watch Parks & Rec because they complain
about the documentary format? Why do I only hear that about P&R and
not this show? Is it just an easy excuse? Is “I don’t...
I have not seen any interviews with the cast of the Hunger Games, but I would sort of like to see them now! Any good ones out there yet?

And yeah, Dr. Melfi. That was so awful. And in the end she decides not...

O fo sho. But like, isn’t that true of basically every award? It’s basically a self-serving publicity move for whatever given industry? ARE THERE ALTRUISTIC AWARDS? Did you see that episode of Friends where Joey and Phoebe have a bet about whether or not charity can be selflfess?

Trigger Warning But Serious Question
OK so on the /Filmcast they were talking about the rape scene in David
Fincher’s Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. One of the hosts was saying
that he was made uncomfortable by the fact that David Fincher seemed
to be like, enjoying depicting the scene. I don’t know exactly how one
conveys that they AREN’T enjoying themselves through direction (though
I think Michael Haneke has...
Addiction in Mockingjay
Despite previous reductive shit in the Hunger Games, like the racism,
and the sanctity of life stuff, it’s pretty cool to see the
matter-of-fact treatments of addiction, especially in Mockingjay.
Haymitch’s addiction is barely condemned, and Johanna’s painkiller
thing is even more accepted by the book.
Right now she & Katniss are training, and are both injured in their...

PARTY DOWN, which is a great fucking show, is going to be pulled from
Netflix Instant in two days. Starz and Netflix’s contract has expired
and Starz is leaving. So that means all of the Starz Play list is
getting 86’d, but it’s not a big loss on the whole. The only one that
really hurts is Party Down. SO IF YOU HAVEN’T WATCHED IT YET, GO WATCH
SOME OF IT! POST HASTE!

“I think a lot of people are justifying Meryl’s win by saying ‘Well,

Why You Can't Hate Mumford & Sons, In The End
One. They got popular—hugely, stupidly popular—mostly through a
single live performance. WHICH WAS VERY GOOD. Sorry Avett Brothers,
but you guys biffed that one. But how often is music even approaching

OSCARS
So! I don’t really give a fuck who wins what at the Oscars. I think it
is shaping up to be another boring gangbang of a movie I don’t really
want to see that much (King’s Speech last year, The Artist this year).
The Oscars make me jingoistic. Fuck European movies and European
sensibilities! Okay, I’m not only like this at Oscar season.

One thing that would be fun about an Obama/Santorum race:
Santorum would OBVIOUSLY go so low and evil with it that I wouldn’t
feel bad at all about the Obama campaign going negative. And they
would DESTROY him. My god, by November Rick Santorum would be a pile
of fucking DUST.

BLOGGING FOR ALASKA #9: ON THE GROUND! →
A long time ago, I had an mp3 of TV on the Radio playing “Ambulance”

So the NYT talks about a “new breed of superdonor”—an “exclusive
club” of rich people (like Peter Thiel) who are now a major political
force.
Except I don’t think they will prove to be a major political force!

everyone will spend more. It’s an arms race, sure, but...

So Peter Thiel is a major backer of a Ron Paul super PAC. I was like,
“how do I know that name?” Then I read the next line:

The Devil And Dick Santorum
If you don’t know by now, a couple of years ago Rick Santorum gave a
speech about how Satan was attacking America. Drudge dug this speech
up and Right Wing folks including Rush Limbaugh have publicly done

Which is weird because isn’t he just saying, slightly more explicitly,

And Michigan is about the same, but just flip Paul and Gingrich. PBS
points out that if Romney loses Michigan, the world could fall at
Santorum’s feet on Super Tuesday. HOW FUCKING CRAZY WOULD THAT BE.
Super Tuesday, by the way, is on March 6th. So the thing to...

Words, words, words
So there’s that part in Hamlet where he says “words, words, words,”
and then maybe he does it a few more times, I can’t remember. It’s a
good line because he’s dismissing whatever shit is falling out of
Polonius’s mouth but also making a larger point about the frailness
and meaninglessness of language.
But I always hated the way Ken Branagh does...

Words, words, words
I love when they count the times words were used in a debate. I mean,
it’s not ACTUALLY an indicator of anything. Last night during the CNN
debate the word “jobs” was used eight times. “Earmarks” was used over
30 times. That’s from a PBS political newsletter I just joined
because, again, I am back in 1999 Internet-times.
So sure, you can use that to force...
